Viking Elementary School currently serves 410 students in Grades K-5, and houses about 180 students in our school district’s 4-K Program. The building that is home to Viking was originally built in 1972. At that time, it was Holmen Middle School, and Viking Elementary was in what is now the current Middle School. We swapped buildings and after extensive renovation, moved into our current location for the 1994-95 school year. A new gym was added in 1999, and additional remodeling took place from 2005-2008. In 2020, a two stage entry, a flexible learning space, and new administrative offices were added.
We are located next to the Holmen Aquatic Center, near Deerwood Park, the Holmen Public Library, and the Holmen Fire Department. We are surrounded by green space with a school orchard at the top of the wooded area behind our building and a school garden in the front. Our Viking Peace Pole stands proudly in front of our school. It symbolizes our mission of “Learning and growing together to make the world a better place”. The rocks at the bottom of our Peace Pole represent each student and staff member at Viking as we make the pledge to "Let peace begin with me" at the beginning of each school year.
We at Viking are committed to the academic and social development of each of our students. We strive to foster innovation, collaboration, and creativity through a strong academic curriculum which adheres to the Wisconsin State Standards. We use every opportunity to promote a positive learning environment through a healthy PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) program and through an engaging and practical social-emotional learning curriculum. We have high expectations for our students to work to their potential and treat others with respect and kindness. We are an inclusive community and strive to make every student and their family feel welcome and comfortable as we collaborate to help our students achieve success.
