Holmen FFA brings school-raised chickens to the menu! Part of our Farm 2 School Program
We did it! Students in Holmen's FFA have been raising chickens for the past 4 years as part of a grant and the Farm 2 School Program.
On Friday, January 30th, 2015 their hard work was first put on the lunch menu. There were about 3000 servings of baked chicken, shared throughout the district.
"It wasn't just school lunch or just a classroom, it really got a number of kids involved; it'll touch every kid in this district and it also was an opportunity for us in nutrition services to get involved in the education process,” said Holmen Schools Nutrition Services Supervisor Michael Gasper.
Since then the FFA has grown sweet corn, potatoes, lettuce, asparagus, squash and most recently pork & beef for the students in the school district of Holmen.
