This is a Federal program regulated and audited by the Federal Government. A family can apply anytime throughout the school year. If your family qualifies through Medicaid, SNAP, or other state benefits, a letter indicating you have been approved through Direct Certification should have been mailed to you. If you have not received this, one application per family is all that is needed. Families experiencing economic hardships are encouraged to apply. A new application must be completed each year, as the Federal Government sets new income levels each year. This information is kept confidential.
