National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) is an independent, nonprofit organization formed in 1987 to develop professional standards for PreK-12 teachers. The voluntary process was developed by teachers, counselors, and other education stakeholders to recognize experienced educators for the quality of their practice.

National Board Certification signifies that a teacher or counselor is accomplished, having met challenging professional standards as evidenced by performance-based assessments. The School District of Holmen recognizes and supports this rigorous process for district teachers and counselors.
