Holmen Nutrition Services is dedicated to helping teach students healthy eating habits from a young age. We follow the USDA guidelines for Offer Versus Serve, which gives the students many healthy options, and they pick what they would like to eat, yet staying with the guidelines of grain, fruit/vegetable, and milk requirements. At lunch, all students have a choice of three main entrees. The middle and high school offer a Deli Bar complete with great tasting meats, cheeses, vegetables and a variety of whole grain breads/wraps to make your sandwich a meal. All schools feature a salad bar with lots of locally grown vegetables, which is available with all entrees including the Deli Bar. Students are encouraged to choose a healthy meal by taking all five items of the five components offered (one entree, one bread/grain, up to two fruits, up to two vegetables and one milk.) It is a proven fact that students who eat nutritious meals have a higher academic success rate, and overall health than those who do not. We believe the meals received in our cafeterias are of high quality, and priced reasonably for families. Below is a chart which shows a comparison of school lunch versus cold lunch (includes entree-sandwich, side-crackers, two fruits, two vegetables, milk and utensils, condiments, etc) prices to help with your decision.
