Windows Updates are an important part of maintaining a secure computing environment. As part of our efforts to ensure our environment is as secure as possible, a new Windows Update management process has been implemented.
Approximately once a month, a Windows Update will be deployed, initiating a 24-hour reboot countdown. Your computer will need to be restarted within that 24 hours, or it will automatically restart, quite possibly interrupting you in the the middle of your workday. We apologize for this inconvenience and have no way of controlling when the update might occur. However, there is a way to tell when a reboot is pending on a computer.
A green icon will appear in the taskbar:
(You may need to click on the up arrow in the taskbar to see the icon.)
If this icon is present in the taskbar, then a restart is pending on the computer.
Clicking on this green icon will allow you to either open the computer restart window, or initiate a computer restart immediately.
The computer restart window looks like this:
After 23 hours have passed, this window will appear on the screen for the final hour of the reboot countdown. At this point, the window can no longer be minimized or closed. It will stay on the screen until the system has either been manually rebooted or the countdown timer reaches 0.
We apologize for any inconvenience this causes. Please send an email to ithelpdesk@holmen.k12.wi.us with any issues you may have.
