The School District of Holmen is a member of the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS). All employees who meet the hours requirement for participation will be enrolled by Business Services Staff.
Benefit Eligibility
To participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System, eligibility criteria defined in Wis. Stat. §40.22 must be met. Participation is divided into two groups: those employed by a WRS covered employer prior to July 1, 2011 and those employed July 1, 2011 and later.
If an individual worked for a WRS participating employer and meets both of the following eligibility criteria, he/she will be enrolled to participate if:
Prior to July 1, 2011
- Employee is expected to work at least one-third of what is considered full-time employment or 440 hours, and
- Employee is expected to be employed for at least one year (365 consecutive days, 366 in leap year) from employee’s date of hire.
July 1, 2011 and after
- Employee is expected to work at least two-thirds of what is considered full-time employment or 880 hours, and
- Employee is expected to be employed for at least one year (365 consecutive days, 366 in leap year) from employee’s date of hire.
If an individual does not meet the initial criteria listed above, on the one-year anniversary (if expectations for employment did not change) the District must evaluate. If the hours requirement has been met, enrollment will take place at this time. If the hours requirement has not been met, monitoring will continue on a rolling calendar year basis and enrollment will occur at the time he/she meets the hours requirement.
Benefit Level
The Wisconsin State Retirement mandates the percentage rate. The 2024 WRS rate is 13.8% and is split equally between the employee and employer (6.9% employee and 6.9% employer).
- The Employee pays 100% of the WRS Employee portion.
- The District pays 100% of the WRS Employer portion.
